Lymphatic Drainage
Lymphatic drainage, also known as manual lymphatic treatment, is a smooth and precise manual massage technique consisting in manipulating the lymph flow. The author of the method, Dr. Emil Vodder (Denmark), invented it intuitively, in the 1930s and applied it himself with great success. The drainage favorably influences the general state of health as it reinforces immunity and enhances tissue regeneration.
The lymphatic system is important as the lymphatic vessels carry substances that the body needs to properly function and defend itself against illness.
Lymphatic drainage improves circulation and liquid exchanges in the body through the very physiological circulation mechanisms in a non-aggressive way. The manual lymphatic treatment is performed by using gentle and rhythmic pumping techniques on the skin into specific directions (lymphatic nodules and heart).
This treatment induces an elimination of toxins through the lymphatic system. It results in a purification of the interstitial liquid and a decrease of fats and water excesses in tissues. It is therefore often used as a complementary treatment to treat the tissues after post-operatory engorgements, and in cosmetology to improve the skin aspect and complexion (cellulitis, acne, dullness).
Lymphatic drainage sessions will be particularly effective on these following conditions:
- Lymphatic insufficiency
- Varicose
- Cellulitis
- Premenstrual syndrome
- Hematoma
- Headache
- Stress
- Arthritic pain
- Skin problem
- Low immunity
- Post-operatory swelling
- Healing (after injury, illness, scar)
- Swelling (engorgement, edema, water retention)
