Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue massage focuses on the deep muscles located below the surface of the top muscles. This type of massage is designed to relieve severe tensions in muscles and connective tissues (fasciae). It is performed with slow strokes and deep pressures with fingers, fist or elbow on the contracted areas, going along or across the fibers of the muscles, tendons and fasciae.
When muscles are stressed, they block oxygen and nutrients. It leads then to an inflammation, which builds up toxins in the muscle tissue. The purpose is to unstick the fibers of the muscles, releasing deeply-held patterns of tension, removing toxins, relaxing and soothing the muscles. This massage will not only help to loosen the muscle tissues but also re-oxygenate the muscle fibers.
Deep tissue massage is specially appreciated by individuals who experience persistent pain, are involved in heavy physical activities, such as athletes, and patients who have sustained physical injuries. Notice that a deep tissue massage usually focuses on specific areas and may sometimes cause some soreness during or right after the massage session.
Deep tissue massage is particularly effective on these following conditions:
- Chronic pain
- Fibromyalgia
- Muscle tension
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Limited mobility
- Back pain
- Tennis/golfer's elbow
- Neck pain
- Headache
- Frozen shoulder
- Sciatica
